How I made 100$ with streaming thanks to this chrome extension

As a developer and a fan of music, I’ve always been curious about how artists made money on streaming platforms.
After some research, I realized that for a small band/artist, it is very unlikely that you could arise on those platforms organically, which is both sad and bad.

I realized with this little chrome extension called Short Song Streaming, I could make a test and it worked. I made 100$ in a year of experiment.

TLDR;

  • Enable it and click on the appearing button in the extension bar
  • Then you just have to enable it by clicking on it and clicking on the toggle button
  • Once this is done, navigate to a playlist with your songs in it and it will autoplay and skip the song after 41s on deezer and 31s on Spotify, which is the minimum time for a stream to be paid on these platforms
  • Keep the tab opened as long as you wish to earn money

The wrong, the bad, the ugly

This was for me just a proof of concept on how any artist, musician or band could use the chrome extension I created Short Song Streaming to earn some extra dollars, not to make a living out of it.

It has been done before brilliantly with Sleepify, and now, you can do it yourself with Short Song Streaming. Anyway, pulling your needle out of the haystack is more difficult than ever and unfortunately, although some dollars can be done with this method, I would advise not to do this on an industrial basis (even if it would be totally doable)

A small calculation would show that considering this report from Opus.audio

Skipping songs every 31s, one could theoretically play his song around 83000 times in a month if he lets the tab opened the whole time !

This would generate

  • 990$ on Amazon Music Unlimited
  • 883$ on Napster
  • 821$ on Tidal
  • 362$ on Deezer
  • 264$ on Spotify

But still having to pay for a premium account on all of this platforms :-)

I repeat though that it’s not the first purpose of my Chrome extension.

To fully understand the cons on this approach, maybe this article can help: Why you should never use fiverr to promote your music
